Fashion and Beyond
I know inside I still feel about thirty-seven. The year I separated from my first husband, after a relationship that started when I had turned eighteen and married at twenty-one. Almost 20 years. I barely knew who I was. I just wanted to be who He wanted me to be. I felt like I was embarking on a journey to find the girl I left behind. Without having to truly live by the expectations of anyone besides my children, I started to evolve, and slowly, I mean it took years to get in touch with the little girl I left behind.
I still have a picture of me sitting on Santa's lap with a turtleneck, fishnets stockings, and a plaid skirt with my twin, and quite frankly, that is pretty much still my style. Somewhat! I love black turtlenecks. I have fabulous legs, thanks to my Mom, and I love short skirts (within reason) now that I am older. There is a way to wear them, trust me.
My point is I feel about that age, not the physical age; I am blessed to age in to. I feel young. Feeling comfortable in our own skin, in our clothes, and owning a style is being authentic. Having a wardrobe that reflects our true sense of style is becoming.
Spring is upon us; maybe it's time to purge the winter clothes we didn't wear, the ill-fitting clothes that we kept, or colors of clothing that don't become us or spark happiness. I know I have bought plenty of clothes merely because it was on sale. So, I say purge, give them away to a charity, or like my daughter-in-laws, start a Poshmark closet, (HollyG's Closet with 50k followers, so proud of her) or Magnoliabelless and sell them. Either way, life is too short to wear things that don't make us feel genuinely fabulous. I like to think back of Oprah's daytime show and observe the clothes she would wear. It's our show today, ladies, dress up, show up in your authentic style and be the star!
